The Sky generations we buy

The Sky was Saturn's version of GM's Kappa rear-drive roadster, twin to the Pontiac Solstice but with sharper, more angular styling. The base car used a 2.4L four-cylinder; the Red Line added a turbocharged 2.0L direct-injected engine with 260 horsepower, a limited-slip differential, and sport suspension. A five-speed manual or automatic was offered. Production at the Wilmington plant ended with Saturn in 2010.

Identify a Red Line clearly in San Diego — the turbo car is the collectible specification and draws different buyers than the base roadster. State the transmission and the soft top's condition, and note any water pump or differential service, since Kappa buyers research those two items before looking.

What we buy — your Sky included

  • Japanese vehicles of any age — Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Subaru hold up in Southern California, and we price them that way.
  • Fixable issues welcome — Battery, glass, panels, and exterior damage from the 12-point checklist — each priced in plainly.
  • Most 2010-and-newer cars — Sedans, SUVs, and vans from any maker, clean or with fixable issues.
  • Trucks of any age — Pickups are the top of our want list — working trucks, high-mileage trucks, Japanese trucks included.

Where the line is

We buy the cars the big guys reject — but we are not a junk buyer. These fall outside this buying program, and we would rather tell you now than waste your time:

  • No working key
  • Blown engine
  • Shot transmission
  • Major structural damage
  • Heavily stripped
  • Trash-filled or severely neglected

How selling your Sky works here

01

Start with the basics

Two minutes of details: what the car is, how many miles it shows, and where in San Diego County it is parked. Title situation included — complicated paperwork is okay.

02

Check the condition boxes

The 12-point condition list is the whole pricing basis. Report a failed smog, a failing catalytic converter, or a dead battery up front and it is priced in, not discovered later.

03

Decide on your schedule

Your offer holds for 7 days. Pick a pickup window that suits you, sign the transfer paperwork when we arrive, and get paid at pickup.

Common Sky problems we still buy

Water pump failure and labor cost

Both Kappa engines use a water pump driven off the timing components, and when it leaks or fails the replacement labor is unusually involved for a car. Owners quoted for the job on a roadster often decide to sell the car instead of paying it.

Rear differential leaks and pinion seal failure

Sky rear differentials are documented for pinion seal leaks, vent problems, and clunking, with a recall addressing seal failure on some cars. A leaking, noisy differential needs specialist attention, and owners facing that work frequently sell rather than open up the rear axle.

Passenger airbag sensor mat failure

The passenger presence sensor mat in the seat cushion can crack and disable the airbag system, lighting the airbag warning lamp; it was covered by a recall. Replacing the cushion assembly out of coverage is pricey, pushing some owners to sell the roadster on.

Soft top wear and mechanism faults

The manual folding top wears at its folds, rear window seals fail, and latch and buttress release mechanisms can stick or break. A top that leaks or will not stow hurts a roadster's appeal, and owners often sell rather than fund top and trim work.

Every one of these is a condition answer on the form — report it and it is priced in from the start, never discovered at pickup.

Sky seller questions

My Sky has over 150,000 miles. Is that a problem?

High mileage alone does not disqualify a Sky. If it starts, drives, and has a working key, report the mileage honestly in the form and we will price the whole car, not just the odometer.

My Sky has water pump failure and labor cost. Will you still buy it?

In most cases, yes — that is a known Sky issue and it is priced into the offer from the condition answers you submit, not discovered at pickup. Describe it honestly and the offer already reflects it.

Do you buy a Sky that failed smog?

Yes. Smog failure is one of the 12 condition answers, so the offer accounts for it up front. You do not need to pay for diagnosis, repairs, or a retest before pickup.

What happens on pickup day?

Our buyer checks the VIN, title, mileage, and the same condition items you submitted for your Sky. If everything matches, you sign the transfer paperwork, receive payment, and hand over the keys — and the tow is free in San Diego County.
