How selling your 4 Series works here

01

Start with the basics

Two minutes of details: what the car is, how many miles it shows, and where in San Diego County it is parked. Title situation included — complicated paperwork is okay.

02

Check the condition boxes

The 12-point condition list is the whole pricing basis. Report a failed smog, a failing catalytic converter, or a dead battery up front and it is priced in, not discovered later.

03

Decide on your schedule

Your offer holds for 7 days. Pick a pickup window that suits you, sign the transfer paperwork when we arrive, and get paid at pickup.

What we buy — your 4 Series included

  • Japanese vehicles of any age — Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Subaru hold up in Southern California, and we price them that way.
  • Fixable issues welcome — Battery, glass, panels, and exterior damage from the 12-point checklist — each priced in plainly.
  • Most 2010-and-newer cars — Sedans, SUVs, and vans from any maker, clean or with fixable issues.
  • Trucks of any age — Pickups are the top of our want list — working trucks, high-mileage trucks, Japanese trucks included.

Where the line is

We buy the cars the big guys reject — but we are not a junk buyer. These fall outside this buying program, and we would rather tell you now than waste your time:

  • No working key
  • Blown engine
  • Shot transmission
  • Major structural damage
  • Heavily stripped
  • Trash-filled or severely neglected

The 4 Series generations we buy

The 4 Series split from the 3 Series for 2014 as the F32 coupe, F33 convertible, and F36 four-door Gran Coupe, with 428i, 435i, 430i, and 440i variants over the run. The second-generation G22 arrived for 2021 with much larger grille styling, 430i and M440i power, and an electric i4 sibling sharing the Gran Coupe body. M4 models sit at the top of both generations.

Southern California has many convertibles and Gran Coupes, so state the body style and whether the car is rear- or all-wheel drive (xDrive) clearly. Documented cooling-system service is a strong point on any higher-mile example in a warm climate.

Common 4 Series problems we still buy

N20 timing chain wear (early 428i)

Early four-cylinder N20 engines had timing chain guide wear that can produce a whining noise and, if ignored, serious engine damage. BMW extended warranty coverage on affected cars, but age and mileage records matter on early builds.

Electric water pump and thermostat failure

Six-cylinder and four-cylinder cars alike use electric water pumps and electronic thermostats that fail and cause overheating warnings, often with little advance notice. They are commonly replaced together as preventive pairs on higher-mile cars.

Oil and coolant leaks

Valve cover, oil filter housing, and oil pan gaskets weep with age and heat cycles, and plastic coolant flanges become brittle. On turbo engines, oil filter housing leaks can drip onto drive belts below.

Charge pipe and carbon buildup (turbo engines)

Plastic turbo charge pipes on earlier turbo engines can crack and cause a sudden loss of boost. Direct-injected engines also accumulate intake valve carbon over time that affects idle quality.

Every one of these is a condition answer on the form — report it and it is priced in from the start, never discovered at pickup.

4 Series seller questions

Can I sell a 4 Series with a lien or a lost title?

Yes to both — name the lender or pick the title situation that matches yours in the form. Complicated paperwork is part of what we handle, and we explain the correct next step before scheduling.

My 4 Series has over 150,000 miles. Is that a problem?

High mileage alone does not disqualify a 4 Series. If it starts, drives, and has a working key, report the mileage honestly in the form and we will price the whole car, not just the odometer.

Do you buy a 4 Series that failed smog?

Yes. Smog failure is one of the 12 condition answers, so the offer accounts for it up front. You do not need to pay for diagnosis, repairs, or a retest before pickup.

My 4 Series has n20 timing chain wear (early 428i). Will you still buy it?

In most cases, yes — that is a known 4 Series issue and it is priced into the offer from the condition answers you submit, not discovered at pickup. Describe it honestly and the offer already reflects it.
